WASHINGTON – Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02), a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, issued the following statement after attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, and the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, which resulted in the deaths of Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith, U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and two other Americans:
“I was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of four Americans in Libya, including Mr. Smith and Ambassador Stevens. My thoughts and prayers are with their families and loved ones. Yesterday’s attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi are stark reminders that radical Islam is a clear and present danger to peaceful democracy. America has done nothing warranting an apology. This violence and murder are cowardly, unjustified and must not go unanswered. Swift justice should be our focus.”
