Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) issued the following statement after House passage of the Department of Defense, Military Construction, and Veterans Affairs and Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act, 2013 (H.R. 933):
“Once again, the House is leading by passing a sensible appropriations bill that holds down spending in line with the sequester and includes smart reforms. It prioritizes funding for veterans and the armed forces, and gives the Pentagon more flexibility in dealing with potential effects of the sequester. This funding and reprogramming authority is critical for America’s military installations, including Arkansas’s Little Rock Air Force Base and Camp Robinson. Now it is time for the Senate to do its job.”
Without passage of H.R. 933, federal operations would no longer be funded starting on March 27, 2013. It includes full-year appropriations for the Department of Defense (DoD), military construction, and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), which will allow the military and VA to move forward with critical national security and veterans programs. The remaining government operations will be funded at FY 2012 levels.
