The Ozark folk are known for their strong tradition of fine craftsmanship. The crafts people at the Ozark Folk Center State Park continue this tradition by creating fine functional and decorative handmade items in their workshops located within the park. On Friday, July 11, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Ozark Folk Center State Park will be hosting a chance for visitors to experience the craft village for free during Handcrafted Evening in the Park.
During the Handcrafted Evening, resident crafts people will share a side of their working studios that you don’t see during the regular day. In addition to demonstrating how they create their crafts, they will talk about how they connected with their craft, and the details of crafting in the modern world.
There will be a special free program about contemporary Ozark crafts and their creation in the White Oak Auditorium, located across from the Skillet Restaurant in the Administration Building, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Visitors can go from the program directly to the Handcrafted Evening in the Craft Village.
Shops that will be featured for the Handcrafted Evening include the Lathe Shop, a wood turning located off the large parking lot and the Homespun Gift Shop, with Ozark Folk Center State Park merchandise and fine consignments from Arkansas artisans. On the lower level of the Craft Village the Candle Shop, Casting and Jewelry Shop, Broom Shop, Doll Shop, Art Guild Cabin, Leather Shop and Apothecary Shop will be featured. On the upper level of the Craft Village the Glass Shop, Pottery Shop, Spinning and Weaving Shop and Print Shop will be featured. Many shops will have special treats for their evening visitors.
Admission to the Craft Village is free for this evening event. There is plenty of parking in the lower lot and our free shuttle will carry you to the Village on the top of the hill.
Visitors will be able to discuss with working crafters about how they learned their skills and where they find their inspiration. They can learn about their tools and their workshops, as well as buy unique handcrafted items directly from the folks who are making them. A relaxed, informal and quiet summer evening is planned for this event.
The Ozark Folk Center State Park is located at 1032 Park Avenue in Mountain View. Follow the signs to the Ozark Folk Center State Park, less than a mile from the Courthouse Square in downtown Mountain View. The park may also be reached by taking Hwy 5/9/14 (Sylamore Ave) to Jimmy Driftwood Parkway, which leads directly to the park entrance.
The Evening Concert in the Ozark Folk Center State Park Auditorium is $12.00 for adults or $7.00 for children 6 to 12, while children under 6 are free. Tickets go on sale at 6:00 p.m. in the box office. You can visit the Craft Village before the concert, during intermission or after the music for a truly wonderful evening.
