Harding University announces 2010-11 Distinguished Lecture Series

In his term as the 15th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen.

Myers led the United States military through four years of tumultuous change on the international and domestic stage. From our engagement in Iraq and Afghanistan to the military’s heroic role following Hurricane Katrina, Myers was the principal military adviser to the president, the defense secretary, and the National Security Council in his role as Joint Chiefs chairman. In 2007, he became one of three selected for the first CIA External Advisory Board, which is responsible for providing advice on management and related issues to the intelligence community. In his presentation, Myers will offer analysis on military, security and preparedness matters at home and abroad.

Based on their successful USA Today column, liberal Democratic strategist Bob Beckel and conservative columnist Cal Thomas take on today’s most contentious issues with a fresh approach, finding the areas where liberals and conservatives can arrive at common ground.

Tommy Tuberville, Feb. 17, 2011

Arkansas native Tommy Tuberville was announced as head football coach of the Texas Tech University Red Raiders in January 2010. His coaching career spans more than 30 years and includes head coach positions at University of Mississippi and Auburn University. During 10 years at Auburn, he led the Tigers to 85 overall wins, ranking fourth in school history. The team won nearly 50 Southeastern Conference games, a fourth-best mark in the SEC. Tuberville also led Auburn to seven-straight bowl appearances and captured or shared five SEC West Division titles. Throughout his career, Tuberville has been named the AFCA, Associated Press, Paul “Bear” Bryant, FCA, SEC and Walter Camp Coach of the Year.

The American Studies Institute 2010-11 Distinguished Lecture Series will kick off Sept. 7 at Harding University and includes a dynamic line-up of speakers. from gun control to the war in Iraq to immigration and beyond Beckel and Thomas use their bipartisan friendship in an effort to help change the way Americans discuss differing opinions on politics. Beckel is a veteran political commentator and liberal analyst for Fox News. Thomas is a nationally syndicated conservative columnist and appears regularly on Fox News as well. Beckel and Thomas write a twice-monthly column for USA Today and co-authored a book, “Common Ground: How to Stop the Partisan War That Is Destroying America.”
