This theme of this year’s Congress is “Become a Catalyst of Change.” Murphy will participate in educational programs and tours as well as attend ceremonies that honor her achievements in 4-H. Murphy said she is grateful for the opportunities 4-H and this scholarship have provided her.

“I have worked hard in 4-H for most of my life so I was ecstatic when I received this honor,” Murphy said. “4-H has helped me grow in so many ways. It has pushed me out of my comfort zone with projects such as speeches and cooking, allowing me to succeed more than I thought was possible.”

Murphy was selected as a scholarship recipient in June as recognition for her project, “Foods and Nutrition.” She explained her project in a journal and submitted it to be evaluated against those of other potential scholarship recipients. Finalists were chosen based on the amount of work accomplished and the overall impact of each project. The state scholarships were awarded after the finalists completed interviews that provided more details about each finalist’s project and his or her knowledge of 4-H.
