Harding University’s marriage and family therapy program and counseling center will host the 20th annual Women in God’s Service (WINGS) conference Feb. 21-22 in the David B. Burks American Heritage Building.
The WINGS conference encourages women of all ages and throughout the region to join together for a weekend of study on the theme “Bring out the Good China.” Keynote speakers for the conference include Elaine Huffard Denman and best-selling author Tiffany Yecke Brooks, and Denman will moderate a panel featuring Brenda Allen, Karen Young and Abby Stone.
Dr. Sherry Pollard, Harding University ombudsman, professor of the marriage and family therapy program, and assistant director of the counseling center, is the founder of the WINGS conference and has directed it for 18 years. She is currently one of four directors and said this year’s “Bring out the Good China” theme is intentional and timely.
“WINGS 2014 is the 20th anniversary of its beginning,” Pollard said. “A traditional 20th wedding anniversary gift is china. China symbolizes the beautiful, elegant and delicate nature of one’s love for the other during the past 20 years. We want to celebrate the blessings we have experienced as we have shared 20 WINGS conferences.”
Pollard said she loves working with women and preparing for the conference throughout the year by choosing a theme and developing it through scripture and prayer.
“God knows that we need community, and I have found mine through my connection with other women through the years in this process,” Pollard said. “The events are intended to be special, uplifting and encouraging. We want women to leave feeling closer to God and to each other as sisters in the Lord.”
Space is limited, and the early registration fee is $35 until Feb. 15. Tickets will be $40 after that date. The early registration fee for students is $25 and $30 after Feb. 15. Partial weekend registration for Friday or Saturday is available for $20 or $15 for students. Students may take WINGS for one credit hour if pre-arranged with the registrar’s office.
