The Outstanding Advising Administrator category recognizes individuals whose primary role at their institution is the administrator responsible for the delivery of advising services to students. According to the nomination by academic advisor for Career Pathways at UACCB, Debbie Wyatt, Cannon has been a fundamental player in helping move UACCB from a faculty centered advising model to a split model utilizing faculty and professional staff to offer intrusive advising to students. “She has done this by utilizing strong interpersonal skills, a tremendous knowledge of best practices in advising and a sincere desire to collaborate with faculty and staff.”

Brian Berry, vice chancellor for enrollment management and student services supported Cannon’s nomination by saying, “Jennifer arrived on our campus a year ago with incredible enthusiasm and quickly worked with a team of other professional staff and faculty members to devise a plan to transition our campus from a decentralized faculty model to an advising center model. She is developing policy, procedures, and assessments for our advising program and is providing advising training programs in addition to serving over 100 students as an advisor herself.”

Patricia Griffin, NACADA Region 7 Chair stated, “I am honored to be able present the NACADA Excellence in Advising – Outstanding Advising Administrator Award to someone who has made a tremendous impact on an institutions delivery of advising services.”  For more information about the Region 7 National Academic Advising Association’s Awards Program, visit our web page at:  http://nacada.ksu.edu/Regional_Divisions/region7/awards.htm
