Lincoln: Marker Will Honor Enslaved African Americans’ Role in U.S. Capitol’s Construction

Washington – In a speech on the Senate floor earlier today, U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln spoke about the role enslaved African Americans played in the construction of the United States Capitol. The U.S. Senate and House of Representatives recently passed Lincoln and Congressman John Lewis’ (D-Ga.) resolution to recognize these African Americans.  The resolution calls for a marker to be placed in the Capitol Visitor Center’s Emancipation Hall to commemorate these African Americans’ place in history.
