Lincoln Offers Statement of Support to Arkansas Communities Damaged by Severe Weather and Tornadoes

Washington – U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln released the following statement today after severe weather and tornadoes caused widespread damage, many injuries, and at least one fatality in Arkansas last night.

“My thoughts are with the families affected by serious weather last night, and I am praying for the family and loved ones of the Van Buren County resident who lost his life as a result of the violent storms. Many Arkansans were injured in the tornadoes that touched down across the state, and I am praying for their quick and full recovery.

“I am especially grateful for the brave efforts of emergency workers and first responders who have been hard at work since the storms hit.

“As Arkansans, we have recovered from severe weather like this before. Last night’s storms caused widespread damage to many homes and businesses, but I am confident that our strong and resilient citizens will recover quickly once again. While it will be challenging, I have no doubt that Arkansans will reach out to their neighbors and lend a helping hand, just as we have always done.

“My office has been in close contact with officials in the areas affected by these storms. Arkansans should know that their federal government will be there for them in their time of need. That’s why I will continue to stay in close contact with local, state, and federal officials, and I will work hand-in-hand with the affected communities to bring federal assistance.”

Senator Lincoln encouraged those affected by the tornado to call her office in Little Rock at 1-800-352-9364 for information on accessing assistance.
