Louis A. Anderson US Census Bureau talks with Bob Connell General Manager of KFFB 106.1 on Open Mic about the importance of the US Census and job opportunities working for the US Census Bureau.

The important work of the Census helps to identify how $400.Billion is distributed to the States as turn back funds for roads, schools, hospitals and various infrastructures locally, should those decisions be based on population. Nationally, the Census Count balances the 435 members of the House of Representatives evenly across the population as mandated by the U.S. Constitution. The Decennial Census has been done every 10 years, since 1790.

The U.S. Census Bureau maintains a number of offices throughout the United States, however the Decennial Census Offices opened in mid 2008 to count everyone in the United States for the “every 10 year census”. The Decennial Census Day is April 1, 2010 and operations have been on-going for the past year and a half, in preparation.

The Census Bureau will employ over 1.3 Million people in the United States to count every person once and in the right place. It is the largest peacetime mobilization of a workforce ever. Local Census Taker positions are available with hourly salaries starting at $12.75, depending on responsibilities and location.
