The Batesville Fire Department was still putting water on hot spots this afternoon on Edwards Dining Hall, which was destroyed by fire Tuesday afternoon.

Dinner for residential students will be served in the Small Gym inside Becknell Gymnasium from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today and until further notice. Beginning Thursday morning, breakfast also will be served in the Small Gym rather than in the Flanders Reading Room as originally planned. Students should enter Becknell at the northwest entrance (facing College Street).

A special convocation will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Brown Chapel so President Donald Weatherman can update students, faculty and staff on the fire and plans for moving forward.

A couple of campus events have been canceled but otherwise it’s “education as usual” at Lyon. The RLS Halloween Carnival scheduled for Thursday night has been canceled. It was to have been held in the Small Gym, which will now be used for student dining.

The Scots basketball program’s Tip-off Luncheon scheduled for Thursday has been canceled and will not be rescheduled.

The Theatre Department’s fall production, “Southern Girls,” will go on as scheduled with performances tonight and Thursday night in Holloway Theatre, starting at 8 p.m. Ticket reservations may be made by calling 870-307-7510.

Classes will continue to be held at usual. There were no injuries as a result of the fire and no other buildings on campus were affected. The cause of the fire is undetermined and is under investigation by the Independence County Sheriff’s Department, Arkansas State Police and the Batesville Fire Department.

Offices that were located in Edwards Commons have been relocated to other buildings.

Water service was restored to Holloway Theatre and Barton Apartments this morning. Water service was lost during the fire yesterday. Internet service was disrupted on the east side of the campus because of the fire, and will be restored as soon as possible.

Lyon College President Donald Weatherman said College officials are grateful for everyone asking how they can help. At present, the best way to help is simply to make a gift to the Annual Fund. If you would like, you may indicate it is given to assist with ‘Emergency Response.’ Our online donation link can be found at http://www.lyon.edu/support-lyon-donate.htm.
