Man Accused of Assault on Jail Officers

Samuel J. Davis appeared in court via video arraignment, June 1, 2010, on charges of aggravated assault on an employee of a correctional facility. It is alleged that Mr. Davis threw human excrement and saliva on employees at the Faulkner County Correctional Facility. At the time of the assault, Davis was awaiting trial on drug charges and a charge of terroristic threatening.
During his first appearance on these charges, Davis became unruly and had to be forcibly removed from the arraignment proceedings. In his absence, the judge set his bond on the two new aggravated assault charges in the amount of $50,000.00 as requested by the prosecuting attorney’s office.
“Correctional officers face a daunting task in trying to maintain order in their facilities. Our office will not tolerate any abuse or assault on these individuals as they attempt to perform their very difficult job duties.” said Prosecuting Attorney Marcus Vaden.
If convicted of the aggravated assault, Mr. Davis could face up to 6 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction and up to a $10,000.00 fine on each count.
