Marshall Resident Convicted of City Theft

A Marshall resident has been found guilty of Theft of Property and ordered to pay the City of Marshall $4,250.00 in restitution.
Jeremy Heath Collins, age 30, of Marshall, Arkansas was charged by 20th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Marcus Vaden with Felony Theft of Property for stealing several large pieces of sewer pipe and water meters owned by the City of Marshall.
Investigators met with city officials after several items were reported missing from the area around the Sewer Plant in Marshall.
Local businesses that buy recyclable metals confirmed that they had received items consistent with those that were missing and provided investigators with a copy of an identification card belonging to Jeremy Heath Collins.
Collins claims he was given permission to take the property but investigators were provided a letter signed by all city employees stating that “Je remy Collins was never given permission, from any city employee, to take any type of city property.”
Collins pled guilty to the charges on April 26, 2010 and was sentenced to 60 months in the Arkansas Department of Correction and an additional 72 months SIS to run consecutively. He is also ordered to pay restitution to the City of Marshall in the amount of $4,250.00 for the value of the items stolen.
“Mr. Collins’ situation should serve as a reminder to those who would contemplate stealing, don’t do it”, Vaden said.
