Multiple Counties Rally Together Against the Alcohol Amendment

Keep Independence Dry & Safe (KIDS) a local option committee, led a successful counter-campaign against efforts to make Independence County wet. However another group, led by Little Rock attorney David Couch, was able to place the Alcohol Amendment on the State ballot, which if passed, would allow alcohol sales in the entire state of Arkansas. According to KIDS one of the most disturbing aspects of the proposed Amendment to Arkansas’ Constitution is how it will be taking away the rights of citizens to make this decision on a local level. This Amendment would ban counties or cities from having local option elections on the WET/DRY issue.

According to KIDS this aspect of the Amendment has angered many voters across Arkansas and concerned citizens in other counties are coming together to unite and rally against the Alcohol Amendment- Issue #4.
An Informational Meeting and Rally will be held at Harding University campus in Searcy on September 20th from 2 -4 PM.

The meeting is intended to educate voters on how the proposed Alcohol Amendment, which will be on the November 4th ballot, will impact their voting rights and their communities. Among the guest speakers will be Mr. Larry Page, Executive Director of the Arkansas Faith and Ethics Council and Mr. Bill Wheeler Executive Director of Families First Foundation.

KIDS is encouraging voters across Arkansas to attend and learn why they should vote against the Alcohol Amendment, and how they can help in the simple grass-roots effort to defeat this proposed change to our State’s Constitution. “We must ensure that all citizens are well informed prior to entering the voting booth on November 4th” stated Jerry Hagar, Chairman for KIDS.
