Title: Museum to Offer Day Camp June 14-24
Description: Old Independence Regional Museum is excited to announce plans for its 4th Annual Day Camp. This fun and educational camp will explore Arkansas’ Civil War heritage. “Through hands-on activities, games, and demonstrations we hope to give campers an experience that will help them better understand the hardships and triumphs of life during this time period,” states Amanda Nikkel, museum educator.

The first camp will be Tuesday, June 14 – Friday, June 17 and is for rising 3rd and 4th graders. The second camp is for rising 5th and 6th and will be Tuesday, June 21 – Friday, June 24. Both camps will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. The cost is $40 per camper, and the museum requires at least 10 children to sign up in order to hold the camp. Class size is limited to the first 30 registrants. Campers should bring a sack lunch. A Civil War era recipe will be prepared each day for campers to sample as a snack provided by the museum. Contact April White or Amanda Nikkel at 793-2121 to register. The deadline to register is Monday, June 6, 2011.

Camp will focus on experiences of citizens living in the old Independence region during the Civil War. Campers will be visited by living history interpreters and will hear first hand accounts of local men and women who were living during the era.

The museum is located at 380 South 9th street, between Boswell and Vine Streets in Batesville.

On Thursday, June 23 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. there will be a ribbon cutting at All Smiles located at 2940 Harrison Street in Batesville.
