Mushroom Workshop To Be Held Oct 17

MUSHROOM WORKSHOP TO BE HELD OCT. 17 AT S. FORK NATURE CENTER

Mycologist Jay Justice will present a workshop on mushrooms on Sunday, Oct.
17th, at South Fork Nature Center. Justice is president of the Arkansas
Mycological Society, and enjoys putting the fun in “fungi”. He likes to take
people on forays in the woods and help them learn about all the wonders of
the fungus kingdom. This program is free to the public.

A mushroom foray is planned for 10:00 a.m., with those attending walking the
trails and woodlands of the Nature Center in search of mushroom specimens.
Bring cameras if you want to photograph them.

At noon, an informal lunch will be outdoors on the picnic tables in front of
the 100-year-old restored log cabin. Each participant should bring their own
brown bag lunch.

At 1:00 p.m. Justice will present a program about edible mushrooms, and how
to identify those that are not safe to eat. Bring lawn chairs if desired.

Take advantage of this great opportunity to learn something new about
nature, and register with SFNC Docents Bob or Joyce Hartmann at
(501)745-6615. Choose to attend the whole day, or just the morning or
afternoon sessions.

The gate to South Fork Nature Center is opened for public tours on the third
Saturday of the month. Attendees should drive through the entrance and park
near the restored log cabin. Also anyone can walk down the road to the cabin
even when the gate is closed. Park in the lot across from the gate, and
enjoy the trails on the peninsula during the day anytime. Groups may also
make reservations to visit the Center.
