Nelson Catalina To Be Guest At Charity Golf Tournament May 22nd

On Wednesday, May 22nd Arkansas Hall of Famer and former ASU Basketball/Golf coach, Nelson Catalina in conjunction with event sponsor, First Community Bank will join golfers and businesses to raise funds for the Arkansas Sheriff’s Youth Ranch, according to Boris Dover, the bank’s president and chief operating officer.

Best known for guiding the men’s basketball program at Arkansas State University to 188 victories and the first four 20-win seasons in ASU history, Catalina was inducted into Arkansas State University Hall of Honor in 1991and into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. Since retiring from coaching, Catalina has indulged his enjoyment of golf, playing in tournaments across the state.

“One of the most rewarding things about this golf tournament is the overwhelming number of people who are willing to invest their time and money to support a program helping at-risk children,” said Dover. “When we contacted Nelson about the tournament, he enthusiastically agreed to lend his support to raise awareness for the Arkansas Sheriff’s Youth Ranch and help to raise money through this charitable event.”

“Several new features have been added to this year’s tournament lineup,” said Marketing Director and tournament coordinator, Laura Cornett.  “Nelson Catalina has generously agreed to participate in a live auction where he will donate his golf expertise as a fifth player to the highest bidding team.  A putting contest, courtesy of Mechanical Construction will also be a new dimension of the tournament.”

Participants will have the opportunity to bid on sports collectables thru an onsite silent auction. The Bank has partnered with American Charity Auctions to offer collectible prints and memorabilia from the Razorbacks, Red Wolves, St. Louis Cardinals, Tiger Woods and more.
