Ozark Folk Center Artisans Give Back to Visitors

Fall is in the air and September is time for a nostalgic visit to the Ozark Folk Center State Park Craft Village.

The artisans in Craft Village want to show their appreciation by holding a daily drawing giving away one handcrafted item each day. The Craft Village is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The daily give-away will combine elements of a scavenger hunt along with the fun of the drawing. Visitors will be given a clue to the shop sponsoring the give-away each day when they purchase their admission ticket to the Village. After finding the shop, get an extra entry into the drawing by answering the question of the day for that craft.

Artisans participating in the appreciation give-away include John Perry & Judi Munn, potters; Dona Sawyer, stained glass; Tom Weir, scrimshaw; Skip & Racheal Mathews, copper colorists; Julia Varga, dolls; Robin & Summer Woodsong, wooden toys; Rusti Barger, weaving; Jennifer Whitman, quilting; Troy Odom, letterpress printing; Traci Glover, candles; Charles & Linda Widmer, jewelry; Melody Conatser, baskets; Paula Lane, shuckery; Shawn Hoefer, brooms; Janice Clark, leather; Pat Thompson, blacksmithing; Linda Odom, soap; and others.

“The Craft Village at the Ozark Folk Center State Park preserves the living traditions of fine Ozark craftsmanship by providing studio space for our resident artisans,” said Jeanette Larson, Craft Director. “Our artisans are unique in that they are masters of their chosen craft, and they chose to practice it in a place where they demonstrate what they are doing in every step of the process to the public. They love having people come visit them as they work and they are glad to have figured out a way to say, ‘Thank you.’”

You must be over 18 to participate in the drawing. Admission to the Craft Village is $12 for adults, $7 for children 6-12 and children under 6 are free. There are combination tickets for the day at the park and the evening show; family passes and season passes available too.
