Ozarka College Announced Academic All-Star

Ozarka College recently named their Academic All-Star for 2011.  Anna Mickler, Ozarka student from Mountain View will represent Ozarka College in October at the Arkansas Association of Two-Year College (AATYC) annual conference.  She will receive a $500 scholarship for this honor, as well as opening the door for other possible scholarship opportunities.

Anna’s leadership and enthusiasm are contagious at the Ozarka College Mountain View campus, where she can be found helping and encouraging other students in a diverse range of subject matter.  Biology instructor, David Mitchell, describes her as an exemplary student and a person of exceptional character. “Her leadership skills go beyond the norm of most students.  I admire her positive attitude and enthusiasm for learning. Anna is a positive role model both academically and personally to anyone she encounters with her humble attitude and willingness to stand up for her principles.”

Leading her biology class in a field research project on the nocturnal drifting patterns of aquatic macroinvertebrates of a local creek, Anna presented her findings to the Ozarka College Faculty Council this past spring.  It was apparent through her professional and enthusiastic presentation, that Anna will achieve success in whatever career choice she makes.

After completing an Associate of Arts degree, Anna plans to transfer to the University of Central Arkansas and major in Biology. She says she is keeping her career options open at this point, but would like to pursue a medical career in the field of pediatrics or optometry; or possibly a teaching career in higher education.

Anna is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and is actively involved in music and working in her church.  She volunteers her time as a tutor for college and high school students; and works part-time at Mountain View Eye Care and as a musician at the Ozark Folk Center.
