Ozarka College – Ash Flat Hosted Nursing Career Fair

Ozarka College – Ash Flat hosted the 2nd annual nursing career fair on June 25, 2014 for the Ozarka College Licensed Practical Nursing students. Approximately 60 students attended, while representing Ash Flat, Mammoth Spring, Melbourne, and Mountain View nursing programs. Deb Martin, Ozarka College Clinical Instructor, coordinated the career fair. The students learned good resume tips and were provided employment information from several area businesses.

“This is a first chance opportunity for facilities to recruit new graduate nurses from all Ozarka nursing programs,” said Cheryl Ekenes, Ozarka College LPN Instructor. “Recruiters were able to talk specifics on pay, benefits, their hiring processes in an effort to recruit the highly regarded
students.”

Drexene Winey, Ozarka College Financial Aid Specialist, conducted financial aid exit counseling to graduating nursing students. Kendra Smith, Ozarka College Credential Attainment Specialist, provided a resume workshop. Students particularly enjoyed the live skit of what an employer is looking for, and the resume jeopardy game, lead by Smith and Winey.

The students were also able to learn about travel nursing, working in other compact states, and opportunities for nurses in other areas such as teaching, oil and gas industries, youth camps, cruise ships, civilian military contracting, insurance companies, and industrial manufacturing
plants.

Ozarka College would like to express their appreciation to the facilities represented at this year’s event: Air Evac, Arkansas Department of Human Services, Ash Flat Nursing and Rehab, Baxter Regional Medical Center, Community Home Health of Highland, Community Medical Center Home Health, Eaglecrest Nursing and Rehab, Fulton County Hospital, North Arkansas Home
Care, and the United States Army.
