Ozarka College to Offer General Chemistry, Survey of Calculus in Spring 2014

Ozarka College will offer survey of calculus and general chemistry and lab this spring at the Melbourne and Ash Flat
campuses. These advanced math and science courses are transferable to all four-year universities in the state and are being offered in the late afternoon to allow both high school students and working students additional
accessibility.

Dr. Jason Self highlighted the importance of these types of offerings stating, “This is a great opportunity for students to complete higher level coursework in the STEM areas at Ozarka College. The lower student-to-instructor ratio allows a high level of interaction and support for students at a much lower cost than most transfer institutions.”

According to arkansasstemcoalition.com, the Arkansas Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Coalition is statewide partnership of leaders from the corporate, education, government and community sectors which plans, encourages, coordinates and advocates policies, strategies and programs supportive of excellence in STEM teaching and learning in order to expand the economy of Arkansas and produce higher paying jobs.

General chemistry and lab will be taught by Dr. Self at Melbourne on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 – 10:20 a.m. and by Dr. Larry Brown at Ash Flat on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 – 7:20 p.m. Survey of calculus will be taught by Justin Ward at Melbourne on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 – 5:20 p.m. and by Anthony Burkhammer at Ash Flat on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 – 4:20 p.m. Students wishing to enroll in general chemistry and lab or survey of
calculus must have successfully completed College Algebra.

Tuition at Ozarka College is $79 per credit hour, plus additional fees and the cost of textbooks and lab materials.
