Ozarka to Offer Child Care Trainings in Melbourne

Melbourne – Ozarka College will offer Pre-K Social-Emotional Learning (Pre-K SEL) training on Monday and Thursday nights in September, October, and November at the main campus in Melbourne in the Hall Building, Room 112. This training is being offered in partnership with the Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education of the Arkansas Department of Human Services and the University of Arkansas.

Pre-K SEL is a specialized training that is offered to teachers of three and four year olds free of charge. The goal of the Pre-K SEL training is to strengthen the capacity of preschool programs to improve the social and emotional outcomes of young children.

Pre-K SEL training combines basic information, application, activities and resources that will provide a broader understanding of the following important lessons:  foundation of social-emotional learning, social-emotional development, temperament, influences on social-emotional learning, building positive relationships, classroom preventive practices, understanding behavior, social-emotional teaching strategies, and intensive individualized interventions.

Participants will receive a manual free of charge. Graduates will be awarded certificates upon completion of 45 hours of training. CEUs are available for a fee of $10. Participants can attend night classes, which will be held on September 14, 17, 21, 24, 28, October 1, 5, 12, 15, 19, 26, 29, and November 2, 5, 9 from 5:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.  Heather Everett, Director of ICC Preschool, will be the instructor for the Pre-K SEL training.
