Rape Conviction Nets 20 Year Sentence to a Conway Man

Arthur Harold Cox, age 57, of Conway was sentenced September 7, 2010 for the crime of Rape. Based upon the plea, Cox will serve 20 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction.

In June of this year, Cox was serving as a maintenance worker at Salem Park Apartments on Dave Ward Drive. As part of his duties, Cox came into contact with a 6 year old girl who lived in the apartment complex. Cox lured the child to his apartment under the false pretense of playing with his granddaughter for the evening. Cox engaged in deviant sexual activity with the child while at his apartment.

After the child returned to her home, she told her mother some of the events that took place while at Cox’s apartment. The Conway Police were notified. During the investigation, Detective Brad Fornash was able to obtain a detailed statement from the child, as well as a statement from Cox and forensic evidence that verified the child’s story.

“The hero of this story is the brave little girl who had the courage to speak up about this horrific event. She has helped to take a predator off our streets and has protected those who might have fallen victim to him in the future. These cases are often very difficult to prove, but her bravery coupled with the hard work of Detective Fornash helped result in this favorable outcome.” said Marcus Vaden, Twentieth Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney.

Cox will be required to register as a sex offender and will have to serve at minimum, seventy percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
