Roger Bennett Memorial Concert Announced

The  8th Roger Bennett Memorial Concert is scheduled for Saturday, October 12 at Independence Hall on UACCB  Batesville Campus.  Featured southern gospel group will be the Mark Trammell Quartet.

Strawberry  Arkansas native, Roger Bennett and North Little Rock native Mark Trammell were members of the prestigious Cathedral Quartet early successes.  Not only were they members of the Cathedral Quartet together but were next door neighbors during this same time.  This concert series is in recognition for Strawberry, Arkansas’ native Roger Bennett and his lifetime of contributions to Southern Gospel Music.

Mark has been singing and playing southern gospel music professionally  for over 37 years having begun at the ripe age of 15.   Besides the Cathedral Quartet he has been a member of 3 other legendary Southern Gospel groups – The Kingsmen, Gold City, and Greater Vision.  Mark was the original baritone when Gerald Wolfe and Chris Allman introduced Greater Vision.  Many longtime observers and followers of gospel music consider Mark to be one of the greatest baritone singers of all time.  Mark acknowledges that he has been blessed to be involved in gospel music that personally has evolved from a dream to a life’s call; from just singing to a ministry.

Mark Trammell & his group have been nominated in the Singing News Fan Awards top ten and top five over 45 times since 2004.  Mark was voted baritone of the year 5 times.  In 2010, Pat Barker left as the bass singer for the venerable Dixie Echoes Quartet and made Mark Trammell Trio a “honest quartet”.  In August of 2012 their recording of “I Want to Know” featuring Pat reached the #1 spot on southern gospel charts and went on to be the No. 1 Top 40 song for 2012.

Mark’s only son Nick brings to the group a rich vocal honed and polished by years of singing with The Perry’s, The Trammell, and most recently The Brown’s.  While with the Perry’s Nick was the recipient of the Singing News 2007 Horizon Award and 2008 Favorite Young Artist awards.  Nick is an accomplished song writer.  Nick and his wife Jessica made Mark and his wife LeResa grandparents on June 21 of 2012 with the birth of their baby girl, Tessa Nichole.

Dustin Black completes the quartet and sings Tenor.
