Safety Inspection by Arkansas Highway Police Yields 30 Pounds of Marijuana

An Arkansas Highway Police officer conducting a motor vehicle safety inspection on a commercial vehicle on Tuesday discovered 30 pounds of marijuana on board, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) officials.

On May 15, Arkansas Highway Police conducted a safety inspection on a transporter carrying a load of automobiles. The AHP officer conducting the inspection, on Interstate 40 at approximately mile marker 3 (Van Buren), discovered the drugs concealed in the fuel tank of a Ford pickup truck being transported.

In addition to the marijuana, $7,160 in U.S. currency was seized.

The truck originated in Colorado and was delivering the vehicles to both Kansas and Miami. Three subjects were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver. They were Leonardo Santana, Leonel Santana and Alejandro Figueroa, all 31-years-old and from Miami, Florida. The three were transported to the Crawford County Detention facility.

The vehicle carrying the marijuana was operated by Nationwide Transporters of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
