Secretary of State Charlie Daniels Opens Exhibit Honoring War Veterans

Secretary of State Charlie Daniels officially opened a new permanent State Capitol exhibit, Call of Duty: Arkansans at War, highlighting Arkansas’s war veterans.  The exhibit, located in the northeast corner of the fourth floor of the Arkansas State Capitol, serves as a remembrance of those Arkansans who have served our country and preserved our freedoms.

“As caretaker of your State Capitol, my goal has been to make the historic building not only a structure that impresses visitors, but one that educates them, as well,” said Secretary Daniels.  “I’m so very proud to place this permanent exhibit in the State Capitol to honor our past and current soldiers and to tell the story of Arkansas’s role in each conflict.”

Secretary Daniels was joined by State Representative John Edwards (D-38), a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom II, in making brief remarks on the service of Arkansas’s war heroes, both known and unknown.

As part of the event, the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies coordinated a book signing and sale of a selection of books on military history including Homefront Arkansas by Steve Teske; The Die is Cast: Arkansas Goes to War, 1861 edited by Mark Christ; and Things Grew Beautifully Worse by Brian Robertson.

Interviews with Korean War, Vietnam War and Operation Iraqi Freedom II veterans in attendance can be viewed on the Secretary of State’s YouTube channel, which can be found at www.sos.ar.gov.

The exhibit may be viewed in the northeast corner of the fourth floor of the State Capitol from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
