Senate French Caucus Co-Chairs, Sens. Boozman and Coons, Welcome President Macron to U.S.

U.S. Senators John Boozman (R-Ark.) and Chris Coons (D-Del.), co-chairs of the Senate French Caucus, released the following statement welcoming Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, to the United States.

“As the co-chairs of the Senate French Caucus, we welcome President Emmanuel Macron to the United States. For more than 200 years, the United States and France have maintained close, enduring relations, and the Senate French Caucus plays an important role in promoting strong ties between our two nations.

“Both France and the United States are symbols of freedom of speech, freedom of thought, and the broader concepts of liberty and democracy. We believe President Macron’s visit is a unique opportunity to build upon and reaffirm our commitment to these values and also strengthen the rules-based international order our countries forged in the ashes of the Second World War.

“France is America’s oldest ally—from the days of Franklin, Jefferson, L’Enfant, and Lafayette—and we remain committed to working with the people of France and President Macron to ensure our collective security and prosperity now and in the future.

“We look forward to welcoming President Macron to the Capitol to address a joint meeting of Congress Wednesday morning.”
