South Side High School Bee Branch Student Selected As Eighth and Final Winner in Leadership Program

BEE BRANCH, Ark. (April 30, 2009) – South Side High School senior Sierra Leonard has been selected as the eighth and final winner in the “Discovering Tomorrow’s Leaders” program.  Leonard is a member of the Van Buren County 4-H Club, the South Side Future Farmers of America, the Senior Beta Club and the Foreign Language Club.

Leonard, 18, daughter of Stuart Leonard, was selected for her participation and leadership in FFA and other organizations.  She has been active in 4-H since the fifth grade.  She shows goats and has held clinics for younger    4-H members as a South Side team leader.  Leonard currently competes on the Forestry Team and serves as junior advisor for FFA.She also runs track and plays basketball and softball for the high school.  Leonard’s plan is to major in veterinary medicine in college and continue to work with 4-H.

As sponsor of the “Discovering Tomorrow’s Leaders” program, Chesapeake Energy will donate a computer to South Side High School in Leonard’s name.  And as a weekly winner, she is now eligible to win her own laptop computer at a banquet where all eight winners will be honored. The “Discovering Tomorrow’s Leaders” program was open to all students in Van Buren County.  The Van Buren County Democrat and the Fairfield Bay News, along with KFFB-Radio were media partners for the program. “Chesapeake wanted to recognize 4-H and Future Farmers of America students for their leadership and contribution to their communities,” said Robert Zeiler, manager of community affairs for Chesapeake in Arkansas.  “This program has allowed us to do that for outstanding students in Van Buren County.”
