State Representative James McLean, of Batesville, is announcing his candidacy for State Senate, District 19. This district is currently represented by Senator David Wyatt who has decided not to seek re-election.

“I’d like to thank my good friend Sen. Wyatt for his service to District 19, and the State of Arkansas. He is a wonderful public servant with a great heart for the people he represents. It’s been a privilege working with him in the State Legislature.”

District 19 includes all of Izard, Sharp and Independence Counties and parts of Randolph and Fulton Counties.

McLean is serving his third term in the Arkansas House of Representatives. He is currently Chairman of the House Education Committee and has served as Chairman of the Performance Evaluation and Expenditure Review Committee and as Vice-Chairman of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Oversight Committee. In his second term he served as Assistant Speaker Pro Tempore of the House.

“I really feel blessed to have been given the opportunity to serve in the Arkansas House of Representatives and I’m so honored and excited to run for State Senate, District 19.” McLean said. “I believe that politics is about people. I’m looking forward to meeting folks from all over this Senate District and getting a chance to share my story and what I believe in.”

Rep. McLean lives in Batesville where he is a funeral director with Roller Funeral Homes. He is married to Katie West McLean and the couple have two children, Evan age 9 and Molly age 3. Katie is the Director of Children and Family Ministries at the First United Methodist Church of Batesville.

“I’ve always tried to bring a perspective to the legislature of a husband and father who works for a living and is involved in the community.” Stated McLean “I have, and always will be,a voice for the values that are important to working families.”

Before serving in the legislature he served two terms on the Independence County Quorum Court.

McLean, a Democrat, is running unopposed in the May primary.

“My Political philosophy is very simply: Invest in our schools, lower the tax liability for working families, and work with the business community to create a climate that encourages job and business growth.” McLean said

Between now and November Rep. McLean plans on visiting all the counties and communities of District 19.

“Me and my family enjoy campaigning and making new friends. This is gonna be a great campaign and I can’t wait to meet the people from all over Senate District 19 and humbly ask them for their vote and support.”
