Sugarloaf Mountain Heritage Day

Sugarloaf Mountain Heritage Day

Sat. May 16th

Hot Air Balloon & More

The board members of the Sugarloaf Heritage Council would like to invite everyone to celebrate the history and restoration of Sugarloaf Mountain during the Heritage Day celebration Saturday, May 16th from 11am till 2pm in the courtyard of the ASU Heber Springs Campus.  The mountain is where local heritage began a few hundred years ago and what better way to celebrate than by having families enjoy a day of fun from kite flying, a bounce machine, a bug and arrowhead collection, FREE lunch, photo contest and a silent auction.  There will also be a LIVE auction of a one hour hot air balloon flight for two people.  The “Arkansas is a Natural” hot air balloon will be giving tethered rides from 7:30 to 9:00 AM.  Helping the Council to celebrate the day will be the Happy Hour Band. Attendees will also hear about a Master Plan for Sugarloaf Mountain and can try their hand at some graffiti removal using the famous “Elephant Snot”.

Climbing Sugarloaf Mountain has been a very popular pastime for generations of residents of the area as well as tourists from all over the US.  With that in mind, it is understandable why an organization was established to help oversee and insure that the heritage of the mountain will go on for many more generations to come.

Council volunteers have been working hard the past year on the graffiti removal on Sugarloaf Mountain, which is not an easy task.  The organization is 35 members strong but always looking for new and returning members that have an interest in the graffiti removal and trail restoration of Sugarloaf Mountain.  Anyone with an interest in Sugarloaf Mountain is encouraged to attend the Sugarloaf Heritage Day celebration May 16th from 11 am to 2 pm.  Memberships will be available as well as volunteer positions but most of all come to be a part of a lot of fun.  For more information please call 501-362-5858.
