T Tauri Film Festival Award Winners Announced

The 6th annual T Tauri Film Festival announced the winners of its Young Filmmakers Competition and presented some special awards at its annual Finale Screening and Awards Program on Saturday evening, July 31, on the campus of the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville. The competition attracted 144 entries from 15 states. The competition was judged by area students in the Lyon College APPLE Upward Bound Program and students at Cave City Middle School and Midland High School.

The award winners are:

Short Documentary. Why Not?  By Naomi Nelson with Reel Grrls, Seattle WA.

Long Documentary. Brother of Mine. By Alek Sabin, Pat Thompson, and Ethan Pullan with Spy Hop Productions, Salt Lake City, UT.

Drama. 99% Accurate. By Jeanette Stellar and Alex Perelas with Val Verde High School, Perris, CA.

Comedy. Apathy. By Hayley Smith, Chase Calcagni, Abby Tiefel, and Jack Treat with Conway HS West, Conway, AR.

Animation. (Un)Happyland. By Aidan Keith-Hynes and Reid Hildebrand with Light House Productions, Charlottesville, VA.

Public Service Announcement. Think. By Taylor Stone with the Perpich Center for Arts Education, Golden Valley, MN.

Experimental. Trapped in a Constant Sleepwalk. By Kelsey Mackadanz with the Perpich Center for Arts Education, Golden Valley, MN.

Three additional awards were presented:

ArkanSTAR! Presented to the outstanding Arkansas youth filmmaker. Tanner Smith, Manila, AR.

Kid with a Camera. Presented to a filmmaker (or filmmakers) who work independently, without the benefit of a school or after-school film program. Andrew McMurry and Matthew McMurry, Roland, AR.

The T Tauri Stellar Catalyst Award. Presented to an individual who makes an exceptional contribution to youth media education. Wade Kreie, Canon USA. Kreie has arranged for Canon to provide professional grade cameras for the movie camp since its inception.

All of the award recipients received the T Tauri ceramic trophy, created by David and Becki Dahlstedt of Mountain View Pottery.
