T Tauri Youth Movie Camp Announces Batesville Workshop Line-Up July 14-26

The 4th annual T Tauri Youth Movie Camp is scheduled for July 14-26 in Batesville. Six workshops in various film-related topics are scheduled. Workshops are held at the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch July 14-18 and on the campus of the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville (UACCB) July 21-26. Workshop faculty includes award-winning media educators and professional filmmakers from Memphis, Nashville, Little Rock, Boston, and Los Angeles.

 

The workshop line-up includes:

 

Script to Screen Basics is a 3 1/2-day workshop open to students in grades 7 through 12. The workshop covers the basics of narrative filmmaking including screenwriting and storyboarding, production planning, acting, shooting, sound recording, and editing. Students will work in small groups and each group will complete a short film. No prior filmmaking experience required. July 23-26 at UACCB.

 

Script to Screen Advanced is a 3 1/2-day workshop open to students in grades 7 through 12 who have previously participated in the T Tauri Digital Video Basics or Community Documentary Filmmaking workshops or have other comparable training or experience. The workshop provides the opportunity for young filmmakers to take their skills to the next level by working with others who have significant past experience or training. Students will work in small groups and each group will complete a short film. July 23-26 at UACCB.

 

Camcorder FUNdamentals is a 4-day workshop (1/2 day sessions) open to students in grades 3 through 6. This beginning videography workshop focuses on the operation of the camcorder, the core building block of the digital film. Students will learn to use the video camera as a tool for seeing their world in new and different ways and sharing their vision with others through the footage they shoot. July 15-18 at the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth ranch.

 

Community Documentary Filmmaking is a 5-day workshop open to students in grades 9 through 12. The workshop gives students the tools and skills they need to tell a personal, real-life story about some aspect of their state or community. The documentary team will create a short film, including research, interviews, filming, editing, music, and narration. July 14-18 at the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch.

Acting on Camera Workshop is a 2-day workshop open to students in grades 4 through 12. Special emphasis is placed on communication, give and take situations, and working with a scene partner in this workshop about specialized techniques of acting for film and television. Students will get “camera comfortable” for auditions through exercises designed to build their confidence and tap into their creativity. July 21-22 at UACCB.

 

Digital Flipbook Animation is a 2-day workshop open to students in grades 5 through 12. A lively group experience, The Digital Flipbook reduces the time-intensive animation process to its essentials. From fun, inventive transition exercises to the final sequences, students will learn a variety of animation techniques to bring their ideas and drawings to life. Their animation team will create a message-driven group project. July 21-22 at UACCB.

 

Workshop films and group scenes from Acting on Camera will be screened at the T Tauri Film Festival Finale Screening on Saturday evening, July 26, at UACCB. All movie camp participants receive free admission to the finale screening and to other evening screenings and programs July 21-26.

 

Workshop tuition is $100 for Community Documentary, $40 for Camcorder FUNdamentals, and $75 for the remaining workshops. Tuition includes all supplies and materials. Students may bring their own digital cameras. Students bring their own sack lunches and beverages. All participants also receive a free T Tauri 2008 t-shirt.

 

The registration deadline for all workshops is June 30, 2008. All workshops have a maximum enrollment and some reach capacity quickly. The T Tauri Movie Camp is non-residential.
