The Batesville Community Orchestra offers a palette of musical colors in a freespring concert of chamber music Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at 7:00 PM in Independence Hall at UACCB.
The chamber orchestra performs the Bach Brandenburg Concerto no. 2, featuring soloistsDanyal Collins, violin, Hannah Cruse(Edgmont, AR), oboe, Michael Spinks(,flute, and Vincent Biondi(Shirley, AR), trumpet. The six concerti were dedicated to their patron, the Margrave of Brandenburg, who himself was anamateur musician.
Two piecesfrom French Impressionism feature composers Claude Debussy and DariusMilhaud. Arranged for theatre orchestra, the delightful Clair de Luneuses the dreamy touch of Jeannie Whitener, piano. In a first appearance,the BCO woodwind quintet performs the suite titled “The Chimney of KingRené”. Darius Milhaud writes a tribute to a Renaissance patron of thearts, King René. Milhaud describes courtly life using Impressionist harmony borrowing from the church modes of the Renaissance.
Walzer fromTchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings and Two Elegaic Melodies by Edvard Grieg feature the BCO string orchestra. The richly chromatic writing features melodies that will send you out humming.
Joining the BCO on stage are the string students from Batesville Junior High performing Bacchanale from Samson and Delilah by Saint-Saëns and Spring Breezes.
