The Conway Dinner Theater’s Presents You Can’t Take it with You Dec 14-23

The Conway Dinner Theater’s 2010 Season of Love will end with a presentation of the award winning play You Can’t Take It With You. The comedic play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart  opened at the Booth Theater on December 14, 1936 and played for 837 performances. The following year it earned the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. In 1938, Frank Capra brought it to the screen with Jimmy Stewart and Jean Arthur as the young lovers Alice and Tony. Capra won two Academy Awards  for Best Director and Best Picture for his film.

You Can’t Take It With You introduces you to the seemingly mad Sycamores, but it is not long before you realize that if they are mad, then the rest of the world is madder. In contrast to these delightful people are the unhappy Kirbys. Tony, the attractive young son of the Kirbys, falls in love with Alice Sycamore and brings his parents to dine at the Sycamore house on the wrong evening. The shock sustained by Mr. and Mrs. Kirby, who are invited to eat cheap food, shows Alice that marriage with Tony is out of the question. Watching the young lovers work out their future with a cast of unbelievable characters, that are more than slightly over the top, will give the audience an evening of great laughter.

Show dates of Oct 15, 16, 23 are evening performances with dinner at 6:15 and the show at 7:30. Our October 24th performance is a matinee. Come have “Sund’y lunch” with the Sycamores at 12:30 and see the show at 1:45. All performances are at Wesley United Methodist Church. Tickets are $30 and may be purchased at Oak Street Bistro, Kordsmeier Furniture or by calling 339-7401.
