The Great Central U.S. ShakeOut set for April 28

The Great Central U.S. ShakeOut is a regional drill aimed at getting everyone in the Central
United States prepared for earthquakes. With ten states participating in this event, Arkansas is
joining in the ShakeOut to encourage Arkansans wherever they are when an earthquake begins
– home, work, school, anywhere – they should Drop, Cover, and Hold On.
Why is it important to do a Drop, Cover, and Hold On drill? As with any natural disaster hazard,
you must practice often so you will react quickly during a real event. Because earthquakes give
no notice, you may have only seconds to protect yourself.
At 10:15 AM on April 28, 2011, wherever you are*, you should Drop, Cover, and Hold On as if
there were a major earthquake occurring at that very moment; and stay in this position for at
least 60 seconds.
Everyone can participate, from an individual at home to a company at the office. The ShakeOut
is not something you have to leave work for; in fact, we encourage participating at work.
Businesses, organizations, schools, and government agencies can register and have employees
and students practice Drop, Cover and Hold On.
Talk with your coworkers, neighbors and friends about the ShakeOut and encourage their
participation.
As a registered ShakeOut participant you will:
• Be counted in the largest earthquake drill ever!
• Be included on the lists of who is participating in your area
• Be an example that motivates others to participate and get prepared
• Be updated with ShakeOut news and other information about earthquakes and
preparedness
