The Phillippe Quartet and Hannah Cruse in Concert Fairfield Bay Feb 14

The North Central Arkansas Foundation for Arts and Education (NCAFA&E) will kick off the second half of the concert season with a program by The Phillippe Quartet and Hannah Cruse, 2:00 P.M. Sunday February 14, 2010 at Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church, 250 Dave Creek Pkwy., Fairfield Bay.  These talented student performers are back by popular request.

The Phillippe Quartet is from Berryville, Arkansas.  The love and appreciation of fine music is strongly entrenched in the Phillippe family of 11.  Musical talent is also abundant in this family’s heritage with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and a mother who are all musicians.  Their maternal grandparents are Analea Cook and the late Milton Cook of Fairfield Bay.  All of the Phillippe children are home schooled.

Four of the nine siblings of the Phillippe family comprise the quartet.  First Violin is Rachael, age 19.   Rachael has played the violin since she was 10 years old.  In 2008 she played with the Northwest Arkansas Symphony Youth Orchestra which went to New York and performed at Carnegie Hall. For the last 2 years she has played 1st violin in the Ozark Philharmonic Youth Symphony.

Susanna, age 12 has played the violin since she was 5 years old.  This is her third year to play with the Ozark Philharmonic Youth Symphony.  She is currently principal first violin.

Joanna, age 15 has played the violin since she was 7 and has played the viola for 2 years.   She currently plays the viola with the Ozark Philharmonic Youth Symphony and enjoys playing her violin “fiddle style” and has won 2nd place in the Missouri fiddle competition.

John, age 14 has played the cello for over 3½ years.  He has been the principal cellist with the Ozark Philharmonic Youth Symphony for 2 years.

The Phillipe Quartet were student performers for NCAFA&E’s 2009 season and have performed for events throughout Arkansas.

Hannah Cruse will play the oboe accompanied by pianist Terry Lee.  After attending a NCAFA&E chamber music concert in 5th grade Hannah fell in love with rich, complex tone of the oboe.  Having a love of orchestra music, she became a member of the Arkansas Symphony’s Youth Orchestra Program and is now in her fourth year, serving as principal oboe.  The Youth Symphony awarded the Flake Music Camp Scholarship to Hannah at the 2009 Opus Ball.  She has placed in national competitions for oboe and in 2009 won the NFMC Lynn Freeman Composition Contest.

Hannah is also a very accomplished pianist.  She plays piano and organ regularly at the Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church in Fairfield Bay.  She has been guest student performer for NCAFA&E concerts.

NCAFA&E is pleased to present these young performers.  Students are admitted FREE.  Tickets for non-members is $8.00 and members are $6.00.  For more info call (501)253-7909.
