Top Young Farmers & Ranchers named

LITTLE ROCK — Three families have been selected as finalists in Arkansas Farm Bureau’s 2009 Young Farmers & Ranchers Achievement Award competition.

They are:
• Jeremy and Magen Allen of Bismarck (Hot Spring County). They have a feeder calf and laying hen operation.

• Jeremy and Carissa Gillam of Searcy (White County). They produce blackberries, blueberries, grapes, muscadines and asparagus.

• C.J. and Cara Parker of Carlisle (Lonoke County). They grow rice, soybeans and wheat.

Arkansas Farm Bureau’s YF&R Achievement Award recognizes farmers and ranchers 18–35 for exemplary effort in farming and ranching, leadership and community involvement. The winning couple will be announced at Farm Bureau’s annual convention Dec. 2-4 in Little Rock. They will they receive a Chevrolet 2500 Quad-Cab four-wheel-drive pickup truck. The winners also get an expenses-paid trip to the 2010 American Farm Bureau Federation convention in January in Seattle, Washington. There, they compete with YF&R Achievement Award winners from the other 49 states and Puerto Rico.
