Traffic Stop Investigation Leads to Gun Cache

On Friday July 30, 201o, 20th Judicial District Drug Crime Task Force Agent Todd Bonds made a routine traffic stop on a vehicle in Van Buren County for no license plate.

During the course of his investigation, it was determined that a passenger in the vehicle, Brandon Lovell, was wanted for other charges and was in possession of three firearms.  As officer Bonds continued to ask questions and investigate, it became apparent that the guns had been purchased from another known felon, Jared Tumbleson.

After officers from the DCTF and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms finished questioning Lovell, a warrant to search Tumbleson’s residence was obtained.  During the course of that search, twelve weapons were located including pistols, assault rifles and shotguns along with several boxes of ammunition.

“I strongly believe that the citizens of this country have an absolute right to possess and enjoy firearms and shooting sports.  However, that freedom can not extend to convicted felons and it is necessary for us to continue to pursue these cases of illegal possession in order to protect the rights of lawful gun enthusiasts.” said Marcus Vaden Twentieth Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney.
