Van Buren County Passes Ordinance Banning K-2 Drug

The Van Buren County Quorum Court passed an ordinance presented by 20th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Marcus Vaden making K-2, a synthetic drug similar to marijuana, illegal in that county.
The ordinance was identical to the ordinance that the Faulkner County Quorum Court passed on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. Vaden stated that he had been working with Van Buren County Sheriff Scott Bradley and the Van Buren County TEA Coalition Director Carole Deckleman on measures to address the growing K-2 problem among children. “I appreciate the consideration the Quorum Court gave this matter. I think it sends a strong message to the community that we are being proactive in the fight against dangerous drugs,” Vaden said.
K-2 has been banned in several Arkansas counties as well as outlawed in several states. The ordinance provides a penalty of a fine up to $1,000.00 and jail time of up to one year. The ordinance had an emergency provision which provided that the ordinance become effective upon passage.
