Water Safe Though Slightly Discolored

Community Water System has recently experienced some slight discoloration in its raw and treated water. Though the water is somewhat discolored, it has been tested and has been found to be completely safe for consumption.

In some areas, staining has also been reported. These water stains are caused when Manganese, a common element found in our water supply increases in concentration. Additionally, the discoloration has been magnified by the added dissolved organics and plant material that has been created by current lake conditions.

The excessive run-off and high water levels brought on by recent large rain events has noticeably effected Greers Ferry Lake conditions. Manganese levels are much higher than normal and the increased amounts of inorganic and organic material has created some unexpected water treatment challenges for CWS. However, recent water samples now indicate that the problem is improving though some areas within the CWS Retail System may experience the problem a little longer. CWS crews will continue to flush water lines and make adjustments in our water treatment processes until the problem has been totally resolved.
