White County Medical Center recently hosted nearly 1,400 local senior citizens during Senior’s Day at the Fair at the White County Fairgrounds. WCMC is the proud presenting sponsor of Senior’s Day at the Fair, which is held the Thursday of Fair Week each year. The hospital has been involved with Senior’s Day for 16 years.
WCMC Auxiliary member and volunteer Chaplain David Crouch talked to the group about volunteering at the hospital and the importance of the role volunteers serve for patients, guests and WCMC associates. Auxiliary members provide non-clinical support in various areas throughout the hospital. Last year alone, volunteers contributed nearly 30,000 hours of service to the hospital. The mission of the Auxiliary is to support WCMC by purchasing equipment, and providing funds for buildings and healthcare items that help the hospital best meet the needs of patients.
Also, WCMC President/CEO Ray Montgomery spoke to the audience about advances in technology and medicine that the hospital has incorporated in the past year. Montgomery also invited guests to join the WCMC PrimeTimes program. WCMC offers the program for people ages 55 and older as a way to encourage adults to be healthy with an emphasis on preventative care. Membership in PrimeTimes offers access to free health screenings and education on a variety of medical conditions.
The Dixie Swing Kings and the Star Steppers line dance squad provided entertainment for the morning as hundreds of people filled the pavilion for the event. Following the entertainment and speakers, Senior’s Day guests enjoyed a free barbeque lunch.
