WCMC Sponsors Senior’s Day at the Fair

White County Medical Center recently hosted nearly 1,500 local senior citizens during Senior’s Day at the Fair at the White County Fairgrounds. WCMC is the proud presenting sponsor of Senior’s Day at the Fair, which is held the Thursday of Fair Week each year.

The Dixie Swing Kings and the Star Steppers line dance squad provided entertainment for the morning as hundreds of people filled the pavilion for the event.

WCMC Auxiliary member Verna Payne talked to the group about volunteering at the hospital and the importance of the role volunteers serve for patients, guests and WCMC associates. Auxiliary members provide non-clinical support in various areas throughout the hospital. Last year alone, volunteers contributed nearly 36,000 hours of service to the hospital. The mission of the Auxiliary is to support WCMC by purchasing equipment, and providing funds for buildings and healthcare items that help the hospital best meet the needs of patients.

Also, WCMC Vice President of Patient Services LaDonna Johnston spoke to the audience about advances in technology and medicine that the hospital has incorporated in the past year. Johnston also invited guests to join the WCMC PrimeTimes program. WCMC offers the program for people ages 55 and older as a way to encourage adults to be healthy with an emphasis on preventative care. Membership in PrimeTimes offers access to free health screenings and education on a variety of medical conditions.

Following the entertainment and speakers, Senior’s Day guests enjoyed a free barbeque lunch.
